How to Help Lucky Ones

walking dogs

Lucky Ones is a non-profit organization relying on the discounted services of local veterinarians, donations of cash, food, and dog supplies, and volunteers. You can help Lucky Ones in any of these ways.

pawAdopt a dog from Lucky Ones.

Adopting from Lucky Ones saves a dog from euthanasia because the dog is not being adopted due to age, breed, or any variety of reasons.

pawProvide a foster home for a dog.

Volunteers foster dogs for adoption in their homes to get them out of the shelter. Fostering a dog helps by socializing the dog (with people and other pets), giving the dog an opportunity to be him/herself (the shelter is very stressful and dogs do not behave normally while there), and providing the dog with love and attention.

pawDonate time at our Saturday Showcase events.

Each Saturday Lucky Ones showcases available dogs at the Petsmart in the Festival Shopping Center, Waldorf, MD. Volunteers display the dogs, answer interested adopters' questions, describe the dogs' behavior, explain the circumstances that lead to the dog being rescued, and assist Lucky Ones in screening interested adopters.

pawDonate dog items.

Donations of food, bowls, beds, toys/bones, crates, blankets, collars/leashes, flea/tick prevention medicine, heartworm prevention medicine, and other useful items are needed and gratefully accepted. Volunteers who foster our dogs normally provide all necessary items for the dogs at their own expense and are happy to accept donated items to help care for the dogs.

pawDonate money.

Money donations to Lucky Ones help pay for care of foster dogs, necessary medical treatment, flea/tick medicine, heartworm prevention medicine or other special medicine a dog may need, compensate the few professionals offering services to Lucky Ones, and support for special adoption events.

pawProvide free/discounted professional services.

Lucky Ones relies on discounted professional veterinary professionals to spay/neuter dogs, provide vaccinations, perform necessary medical procedures, and prepare dogs for adoption.
